Join Avid Bookshop for our Avid Poetry Series featuring local poet Bob Ambrose Jr. for his new book of poetry, Between Birdsong and Boulder: Poems on the Life of Gaia. This event is on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, from 7pm-8pm at Avid Bookshop. Ambrose Jr. will be in conversation with Amy Rosemond from the UGA Odum School of Ecology. Bob Ambrose, Jr. is an environmental engineer retired from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Research and Development. His specialty was water quality modeling of conventional and toxic pollutants. He has been writing poetry since 2009 and has been active in the Athens, Georgia Word of Mouth community. Bob has been featured reader at events in Athens, Cincinnati, and Austin. He posts on his blog site "Reflections in Poetry." His first book of poetry, Journey to Embarkation, was published in 2016. Bob lives with his wife by the Oconee River in Athens, and travels to England to visit his daughter's family and dote on his two granddaughters.


Amy D. Rosemond is an American aquatic ecosystem ecologist, biogeochemist, and Distinguished Research Professor at the Odum School of Ecology at the University of Georgia. Rosemond studies how global change affects freshwater ecosystems, including effects of watershed urbanization, nutrient pollution, and changes in biodiversity on ecosystem function. She was elected an Ecological Society of America fellow in 2018, and served as president of the Society for Freshwater Science from 2019-2020.
