Purchase your copy from Avid's online shop.

We do not charge admission to book clubs, but we strongly encourage book club members to purchase the featured book from Avid Bookshop or make an equivalent purchase if this is a month you borrow the book from the library.

Criminal Binds Book Club image

Second Wednesday every month, 6:15-7:15pm. Dates subject to change. Sign up to the newsletter for updates.

What:

The Criminal Binds Book Club reads captivating mysteries and true crime books! We will read a rotation of true crime, classic mysteries, and newer mysteries (published in the last ten years). Book club members decide what books to read by voting either in person or via email.

Hot Fiction Book Club
When:

First Thursday of every month, 6:15pm to 7:15pm. Dates subject to change. Sign up for the newsletter for updates.

What:

The Hot Fiction Book Club reads very fresh (i.e., recent) hardcover fiction releases. Book club members decide what books to read by voting either in person or via email.

Nightmare on Lumpkin St. Horror Book Club graphic

First meeting Friday, October 13th 7:15-8:15, with an anticipated vote on if we want to stay on second Fridays or move to the second or fourth Thursday of the month! Sign up to the newsletter for updates.

What:

The Nightmare on Lumpkin Street Book Club reads horror novels both recent and not-so-recent from everyone except Stephen King, with a focus on marginalized voices. Books are determined by a vote of book club members, either in person or via email.

Paperback Book Club Avid Bookshop
When:

What:

The Paperback Book Club reads mostly fiction paperback books, generally written within the last 30 years. Book club members decide what books to read by voting either in person or via email.

Queer Stories Book Club
When:

Third Tuesday of every month from 6:15-7:15. Dates subject to change. Sign up to the newsletter for updates.

What:

The Queer Stories Book Club is run in partnership with Athens Pride and Queer Collective. We read books by queer authors and about queer lives, including fiction and some occasional nonfiction. We invite all members of the Athens community to join us in reading books prioritizing queer lives and stories. Book club members will vote on books as a group over email.

Racial Justice, Labor, and the South Book Club
When:

Fourth Wednesday of the month, 6:15 pm to 7:15 pm, no meetings in November and December. Dates subject to change. Sign up to the newsletter for updates.

What:

Racial Justice, Labor, and the South Book Club reads non-fiction books centering on one or more of these topics. As an extension of the Racial Justice Centering Committee of UGA's United Campus Workers union, we invite the local community to come discuss the history and contemporary relevance of labor and racial justice movements in our lives.

Young Adult Book Club Avid Bookshop
When:

Second Sunday of the month, 6:15pm to 7:15pm. Dates subject to change. Sign up to the newsletter for updates.

What:

The YA for Not-so-YAs Book Club reads newer young adult books, usually alternating between hardcover and paperback. Book club members decide what books to read by voting either in person or via email.
