CIRCE is a lush tale of a woman ( goddess) slowly coming into her own power and self understanding. Simply and beautifully written, it is both epic and humble and deep rooted. I have rarely felt such kinship with a character.  Misunderstood and unappreciated, she is scorned by her family and god and goddess peers for the very qualities and characteristics that make her special. She wants and needs to be loved but grapples with rejection. She DEEPLY needs solitude and within it she discovers her true self. She is, ultimately, an artisan-her witchcraft is her art.  Miller imbues Circe with a humanity that is believable and moving. I enjoyed Greek mythology in school and remembered Circe only as the goddess who turned men into pigs. Miller has turned her into so much more. I highly recommend this book -especially for women, young and old.

A bold retelling of the Circe episode from Homer's Odyssey that not only captures the interlocking pieces of Greek mythology, but also gives each god, titan, and Grecian a pulsing complexity. Both Circe the book and the character are quiet, sensual and--at times--freewheeling, adventurous, and devastating. Highly recommended to fans of mythology, fairy tales, and fantasy looking for a strong witch to captivate them. I also highly reccomend the audiobook from for a road trip!
