Event Location

Athens, GA 30601

Avid Bookshop and ReBlossom Mama Baby Shop present Lucy Knisley in celebration of her graphic novel, Kid Gloves. This event will take place on Friday, March 1, 2019, from 6:30-7:30pm at our Prince Avenue shop and is free and open to the public. We encourage you to purchase a copy of the book and to get it signed by the author!

You can purchase this event book online from Avid Bookshop here

This is a kid-friendly event! Instead of doing the usual author event, Lucy will draw portraits of guests/their children in a 'signing line' format. Please check in with an Avid staff member with a clip board on a first-come, first-served basis when you get to the shop. Lucy will give a very short introductory talk (5 min or so) before starting the signing line. We will also have activities for children in attendance.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
If you work hard enough, if you want it enough, if you’re smart and talented and “good enough,” you can do anything.

Except get pregnant.

Her whole life, Lucy Knisley wanted to be a mother. But when it was finally the perfect time, conceiving turned out to be harder than anything she’d ever attempted. Fertility problems were followed by miscarriages, and her eventual successful pregnancy plagued by health issues, up to a dramatic, near-death experience during labor and delivery.

This moving, hilarious, and surprisingly informative memoir not only follows Lucy’s personal transition into motherhood but also illustrates the history and science of reproductive health from all angles, including curious facts and inspiring (and notorious) figures in medicine and midwifery. Whether you’ve got kids, want them, or want nothing to do with them, there’s something in this graphic memoir to open your mind and heart.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Lucy Knisley is the author and illustrator of beloved graphic novels about memory, identity, food, and family. Her Alex Award-winning graphic novel, Relish: My Life in the Kitchen, vividly illustrates her childhood growing up in a professional and home kitchen. It was a New York Times bestseller and has been translated into five languages. Her travelogues (French Milk, An Age of License, and Displacement) and web comic series (Stop Paying Attention) have been lauded by critics. Her combined works have built her a devoted readership, adored especially for her honest and thoughtful true-life stories.
