ABOUT THE AUTHOR:Deron Hicks lives in Warm Springs, Georgia with his wife and two children. Deron was born in Athens, Georgia and grew up in the Augusta area. Deron graduated from the University of Georgia in 1990 with a BFA in painting. He then attended Mercer Law School in Macon, Georgia, where he obtained his law degree in 1993. As a practicing attorney, Deron co-authored a book on Georgia law and wrote numerous articles on a variety of legal subjects -- none of which his children found very exciting. In 2010 Deron decided to try something different -- he wrote a mystery novel for middle-grade readers. His daughter Meg -- a middle grade reader at the time -- was the first person to read the manuscript. She gave it a thumbs up, which inspired Deron to see if anyone might be interested in publishing the book. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt purchased the rights to the book and its sequel. In September 2012, SECRETS OF SHAKESPEARE'S GRAVE was released. Its sequel -- TOWER OF THE FIVE ORDERS -- is scheduled for release on October 8, 2013.ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR:The interior illustrations are by Mark Edward Geyer, who is currently working on his fourth book for Stephen King, and the dust jacket is by Gilbert Ford, who has illustrated the covers for the middle grade series by Pseudonymous Bosch and numerous other children's books.SECRETS was selected as a Fall 2012 Junior Library Guild Selection, and is included in the 2013 edition of Best Children’s Books of the Year, selected by the Children’s Book Committee of the Bank Street College of Education.
