In the interest of keeping everyone as healthy and safe as possible, we've decided the most responsible course of action to take is to postpone our events for the rest of March. At Avid Bookshop, we're doing everything we can to take preemptive measures in hopes that it reduces the impact of COVID-19 and we're currently discussing which other events will need to be cancelled or postponed. Unfortunately, we cannot yet provide dates for a rescheduled event, but we will be sure to provide any new information as soon as we receive it.
Avid Bookshop presents Taylor Brown for his book, Pride of Eden. This event will take place on Tuesday, March 31, 2020, from 6:30-7:30pm at Avid Bookshop at Five Points and is free and open to the public. We encourage you to purchase a copy of the book to get it signed by the author!

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Retired racehorse jockey and Vietnam veteran Anse Caulfield rescues exotic big cats, elephants, and other creatures for Little Eden, a wildlife sanctuary near the abandoned ruins of a failed development on the Georgia coast. But when Anse’s prized lion escapes, he becomes obsessed with replacing her—even if the means of rescue aren’t exactly legal.
Anse is joined by Malaya, a former soldier who hunted rhino and elephant poachers in Africa; Lope, whose training in falconry taught him to pilot surveillance drones; and Tyler, a veterinarian who has found a place in Anse’s obsessive world.
From the rhino wars of Africa to the battle for the Baghdad Zoo, from the edges of the Okefenokee Swamp to a remote private island off the Georgia coast, Anse and his team battle an underworld of smugglers, gamblers, breeders, trophy hunters, and others who exploit exotic game.
Pride of Eden is Taylor Brown's brilliant fever dream of a novel: set on the eroding edge of civilization, rooted in dramatic events linked not only with each character’s past, but to the prehistory of America, where great creatures roamed the continent and continue to inhabit our collective imagination.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

He is the recipient of the Montana Prize in Fiction and a finalist for the Southern Book Prize. His novels include Fallen Land, The River of Kings, and Gods of Howl Mountain. PRAISE FROM AVID'S STAFF:
"It’s hard to explain mankind’s connection to wild animals, the desire for some to possess and capture, other’s deep need to protect and conserve. Brown’s latest southern novel tells the story of four very different characters and their deep connections to the animals they love. In Pride of Eden, Brown illustrates what happens when we hit a crisis regarding our treatment of exotic game. It’s a compelling story featuring as many four-legged characters as humans." - Rachel Watkins
